Virtual reality experience allows users to step back in time to the Coventry Blitz

A new virtual reality experience will allow people to experience what the 1940 Coventry Blitz was like.

Coventry University led a project which gave participants the opportunity to take a step back in time and see how the attacks impacted on the city.

The project, which also included fellow West Midlands Combined Universities member Birmingham City University, challenged people to put out fires in Coventry Cathedral using virtual reality technology.

The system was crafted using old images to digitally recreate the Cathedral to create a realistic, immersive environment.

As well as the Cathedral the experience allowed users to visit a World War 2 shelter.

It was showcased to users on Friday 13 April and was available for people aged 10 and above.
