AMC Skills Provision

The WMCU are the main HE providers of AMC related skills in the region, and make a significant contribution of qualified students to the local labour market each year.

We deliver a range of successful MSC and BSc courses in Construction management using expert BIM staff. Also, a unique MSc Offsite Housing Construction programme aimed at AEC professionals; which focuses exclusively on leveraging off-site solutions to deliver enhanced business benefits (process, productivity, platform strategies, innovation etc).


We have a long history and pedigree in teaching, research and knowledge transfer within the field of digital construction and specifically around BIM. The annual ‘BIM in Birmingham’ event aims to bring together students, designers, architects, BIM specialists, and practices and industry experts to engage in contemporary debates about digital design processes.


We have a distinguished track record of training architects, architectural technologists and designers as well as construction professionals, as AMC skills will be much needed in these areas of industry and as part of the drive to increase building performance.


In addition, we have delivered training to numerous UK companies through collaborations with industry bodies such as CITB. Teaching across the partnership covers traditional courses such as Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Computing and Computer Science, but also incorporates more specialised teaching such as Forensic Computing, Games Technology, Ethical Hacking and Network Security, urban design, architecture, landscape, interior architecture & design, design management, product design processes across all scales.


The School of Architecture and the Built Environment delivers unique and world-leading demolition courses within the HE sector developed in partnership with the IDE (Institute of Demolition Engineers). Courses include MSc Demolition Management & PG Cert in Demolition Management.


A wide range of Higher Level Apprenticeships are available, for example; Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship, Civil & Transportation Engineering Degree Apprenticeship, Building Control Surveying Degree Apprenticeship and Architectural Assistant Degree Apprenticeship (Level 7).


An MSc in Offsite Housing Construction (accredited by CABE) offers a multi-disciplinary, practice-based approach toward offsite housing construction. This course is specifically designed to address national, European and international market needs for delivering houses faster without compromising quality using innovative and modern methods of construction.
